Success at Looe!

I had a great time performing today at Looe Music Festival! The marquee for the BBC Music stage was rammed with loads of people watching from inside and spilling out on the beach. By far the biggest audience I’ve played to so far!! Thanks everyone 🙂

Update

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted regularly on here and that’s going to change now (for real this time). The truth is that it’s been a difficult few months for me on a personal level and various events that occurred in my life over the past year or so have unfortunately come between me, my creativity and the love I have for the things I enjoy most (music being one). There have been more than a few false starts with my music of late and that has been extremely frustrating for me as a creative person but I feel as though I’m finally in a position to get things moving in a positive direction again.

I’ve been writing and recording a lot of material since October of last year and I’m both happy and relieved to say that these ideas have been narrowed down to a collection that will be released as some kind of mini album/EP very soon. They are all very intimate and fragile sounding (basically a bit on the dark and depressing side) but are very personal to me and despite the fact that I’m my own worst critic I believe them to be among the best and most ‘complete’ songs that I have written to date.

In the meantime I’m going to be updating this feed a lot more and I’m going to try and do some vlogging which will allow everyone to see the behind-the-scenes completion of my latest release as well as an insight into my creative process and life in general!

There are a few other exciting things happening at the moment apart from my main solo work that I should mention. My band Devil’s Frying Pan have been getting a lot of radio exposure lately which is very encouraging and we are currently recording our debut EP, plus there’s also an android game called Fennec that I wrote the soundtrack for that is going to be released soon.

Thanks again everybody for your support, especially those who came to my most recent gig (seems like ages ago) and those of you who downloaded and shared my last single ‘Waiting For The Call’. Stay tuned for further updates 🙂

Waiting for the Call – New Single out Dec 16th

I’m happy to announce that my latest single, ‘Waiting for the Call’, is set for release on Wednesday 16th December 2015. The song will be available across all digital outlets.

A clip of the song was featured on my video preview earlier this week and marks a significant change in musical direction. I was brought up on a lot of rock music from the 70s and 80s and started playing electric guitar from a young age so there has always been a desire within me to return to that sound. It was only really since establishing myself as a solo artist that I abandoned the rock vibe that I had explored in bands that I had played in as a teenager. Something felt right about returning to that sound now and I am busy recording my debut album which contains many songs firmly routed in this vein – so there’s more on the way!

My music has taken a few turns over the past couple of years. ‘The Way Home’ EP was a purely intimate acoustic folk project inspired by the likes of John Martyn, Bob Dylan and unplugged Bruce Springsteen. The introduction of session musicians saw ‘Pale Jacket’ as a more mainstream indie/pop record whilst ‘Lemonade Sea’ was heavily influenced by jazz. This time around it’s my love for Ryan Adams and Ritchie Blackmore that has come to the fore.

I recorded and produced ‘Waiting for the Call’ myself with some help from my good friend and audio wizard, Paul Buzza. I hope those who have followed and supported my musical ventures up to this point will enjoy this exciting new direction. My first full-length album is currently being recorded and will be released next year.

Guitar Solo Audio Clips

NEW MUSIC! I’ve taken a different direction musically recently as you’ll be able to hear from these snippets below. The strat is back out and I’ve gone electric…

Here’s an audio preview for a couple of upcoming songs, ‘Waiting for the Call’ and ‘X Marks the Spot’ which are both still being mixed and having final bits recorded. These are two guitar solos that I’ve been working on recently. Enjoy!

New recording: Do I Wait

New recording! This is a cover of one of my favourite songs, ‘Do I Wait’ by Ryan Adams.

All instruments played and recorded by me. Click here for a free download:http://bit.ly/20MpksN

I’ve always loved the honesty of the lyrics in this one. Let me know what you think of it! Stay tuned for some more recordings coming very soon…
